Early childhood is a time of wonder and joy. The Cooperative Nursery School provides every child's family with a window into that world.
At CNS, we believe young children learn best through play and meaningful engagement with their world. Hands-on, community-centered experiences with rich materials help children grow cognitively, physically, and socially. As we say, “If something hasn’t been in the hand or the heart, it can’t be in the mind.”
Our classrooms are designed for exploration and discovery. During inquiry time, children follow their curiosity, engaging in art, building, storytelling, nature exploration, and science. Morning circle and community gatherings bring everyone together for conversation, songs, and games.
Guided by children’s questions and interests, teachers create learning experiences that foster confidence, creativity, and collaboration. This approach nurtures the essential skills for kindergarten readiness while honoring how young children learn best—through play, relationships, and joy.
CNS offers a flexible schedule to meet families’ needs. Children may arrive as early as 8:15 AM and stay until 3:00 PM, with the Morning Program at the heart of each day. Mornings include indoor and outdoor play, circle time, snack, and inquiry, along with weekly music/movement classes. Many children leave at noon, while others stay for lunch until 1:00 PM. A smaller group remains for the full afternoon (until 3:00PM), enjoying small-group activities, stories, and peaceful rest time.
To support consistent growth, we ask that children attend at least as many mornings per week as they are years old (e.g., 3 mornings for 3-year-olds, 4 mornings for 4-year-olds). Families may choose which mornings—and any additional times—work best for their schedule.
Tuition is based on each child’s schedule and the family’s monthly co-oping level.
